Norwegian Kongsberg .22 LR Conversion Unit
made for the Norwegian Kongsberg Colt Model 1914 utilizing a sub-caliber .22 LR
barrel. Premier Lieutenant Kvaal designed conversion kit
consisting of a barrel and seven cartridge holders for .22
LR rounds for the Kongsberg Colt M / 1914. This kit
was designed to fire .22 LR cartridges in the same gun with
the same magazines. This was accomplished by making a
cartridge holder to hold a .22 LR caliber cartridge.
The cartridge holders have same outer diameter as the
original .45 caliber cartridge. The Kongsberg .22 LR barrel
was drilled so it was not centered, this way you could still
use it with the original Kongsberg firing pin and slide. The
barrel is marked with crowned K on the back edge. The
original cartridges were also marked with the crown K. The
barrel does not have a serial number.
Premier Lieutenant Kvaal received a royalty
from KV for each set produced. Production started in 1928.
Such sets were delivered from KV to the Armed Forces even
after World War II.
Premier Lieutenant Kvaal devised this
conversion kit for the Kongsberg Colt M/1914 so that one
could shoot cartridges with caliber .22 LR in the same gun
with the same magazines that are used for .45 cailber
ammunition.
Note how the .22 cartridge holders are
drilled through.
